Tour de 4 is a brand new cycling initiative, born from Sir Chris Hoy’s vision to change perceptions around stage 4 cancer following his own diagnosis. As the 57 mile Red ride passed through Killearn, there was a great atmosphere with crowds lining the streets to cheer them on. Cow bells, air horns and enthusiastic applause erupted when six-time Olympic champion Chris Hoy rode past alongside fellow cycling stars Mark Cavendish, Jason Kenny, Sarah Storey and Dani Rowe, as well as the tennis player Andy Murray. The event’s focus, however, was on the many participants who took part, especially those living with stage four cancer. Every rider was warmly encouraged as they passed through the village.

The event raised more than £2.3 million for UK cancer charities, significantly exceeding its £1 million fundraising target. The money will be shared by five cancer charities: Breast Cancer Now, Cancer Research UK, Macmillan, Maggie’s and Prostate Cancer UK.
